NOURISHING COMMUNITY, FEEDING SOULS.
The pain of inflation is real for all of us, but particularly for financially insecure households, often isolated from both good nutrition and revitalizing relationships.
The Community Food Network is a connection point for the local neighborhood to access healthy food while building a healthy community and empowerment.
The network is designed as a cooperative effort with intentional focus on the body, mind and spirit. It is neighbors empowering neighbors, combining dignity and real relationships while providing food for its families and individuals. It has replaced handouts and charity mindsets with meaningful involvement and true community.
The Community Food Network is pausing during the month of April.
Network Meetings will now meet on the first and third Mondays @ 5:00 PM and Tuesdays @ 12:30 PM.
The CFN will relaunch on April 29, 5:00 PM & April 30, 12:30 PM.
WHO
New Heights CCDA currently runs two Community Food Network groups out of our Benton Heights location, and serves 130 individuals and families twice a month. Community Food Network provides members with 1/3 - 1/2 of their food needs for the month.
HOW
Participants pay a $5 fee to join, and $3 per meeting to maintain their memberships. These funds are never used for food, but rather to support operations for our delivery truck or to support Community Food Network social events (potlucks, cooking demonstrations, etc.). At the meeting, all members pitch in together: unload the truck, set-up the room, and sort the food into boxes, and provide the best experience for one another.
WHY
Building wellness, community and conversation. One of the greatest things that Community Food Network provides to individuals is a sense of belonging. Members quickly become friends and support one another through both celebrations and hard times.
Additional Resources
Many of our members need resources beyond just food. Given New Heights’ unique model we are able to bring in additional wrap-around services to our Community Food Network groups.
A variety of community organizations partner with us to make their resources readily available to our members, such as our collaboration with Corewell Health which provides regular programming and health education to our members.
