Founded in 2017.
New Heights CCDA was incorporated as a non¬profit, 501(c)3 organization in 2017 to build on the work that First Church was doing through its Benton Heights Campus since it opened in 2009. The Community Food Network is one of the initiatives started by the church in 2014, and is now supported by New Heights.
Additionally, the car ministry serving Berrien County started in 2009 through First Church local outreach to help financially constrained individuals gain, maintain or increase their employment through access to reliable transportation. In July, 2019 New Heights Auto Services hired its first full-time mechanic and that August purchased its current building, expanding the opportunities as a full-service garage and social enterprise supporting its work in ministry.
The New Heights Community Development Council assembled in 2018 and continues to do the to work of empowering our neighbors to make Benton Heights a better place to live. The council hosts ongoing community dinners, community clean-up, community assessments, and administrates the Benton Heights Facebook group to provide neighbors with informational resources and community support.
Spring, 2023 will bring new growth, as we break ground to build the New Heights Laundry Hub on the corner of Red Arrow Highway and Euclid Avenue in Benton Heights. The Laundry Hub will not only create access to clean laundry, but the building will serve as a gateway to platform services, intentionally designed with 800 sq ft of “flex” space for committed partner agencies to offer community resources.
