The Abundant Acre: Providing Nourishment to the Community Food Network

Fresh, farm-to-table goodness is what New Heights’ Community Food Network (CFN) is all about–and thanks to a recent donation from David and Kristin Albers, owners of The Abundant Acre, the CFN’s refrigerator was recently stocked with farm-fresh eggs and an entire chest freezer packed with pork to keep local families facing food insecurity, fed and nourished.

Why Protein Matters

Protein is power. It builds muscles, fuels brains, and keeps you going when life gets tough. For families facing food insecurity, access to fresh, high-quality protein isn’t just nice to have, it’s essential. Particularly with the rising costs of food.

Enter The Abundant Acre. This small family farm known for its sustainable and humane practices, didn’t just donate food. They gave dignified options. Scrambled eggs for breakfast. Pulled pork sandwiches for dinner. Maybe a ham to celebrate a new job, or the opportunity to stretch some meals for the kids by adding ground sausage to mac and cheese.

The Impact of Generosity

At New Heights’ CFN, food is more than calories; it’s connection. Every item on the organization’s shelves, or in this case, the refrigerator and freezer, is a subtle reminder that people care about them.

The partnership between the Albers and the Community Food Network reflects the power of community-driven solutions to tackle pressing issues like hunger. With the addition of these fresh and locally sourced items, the CFN can serve its members’ households with an even greater variety of nutritious foods, offering dignity and choice to financially constrained families.

A Model for Collaborative Giving

This is more than food. It’s the strength of shared purpose. The collaboration between The Abundant Acre and New Heights CCDA highlights the importance of partnerships in addressing food insecurity. Businesses, nonprofits, and the local community working together, can make a tangible difference. It’s a reminder that even when things get challenging, we can create something beautiful–together.
