Community Food Network Reopens Offering Quality Meats, Dairy, and Fresh Produce

After a brief hiatus, the Community Food Network is back and better than ever, reopening its doors with a revitalized focus on providing high-quality, nutritious food to families in need. The refreshed initiative now offers selections of quality meats, dairy products, and farm-fresh produce, ensuring that local residents have access to wholesome ingredients that can support healthy lifestyles.

The reopening marks a significant moment for the food cooperative for families grappling with food insecurity, as the Community Food Network has long been a trusted resource, particularly in the Benton Heights neighborhood. With the new emphasis on fresh, locally sourced produce and quality protein options, the network is addressing not only hunger but also the importance of balanced, nutritious meals and strong health.

"I’m excited about the refresh and offering greater variety and healthier options to the community," said Kathy Craig, Community Food Network Director. "We’ve worked hard to establish relationships with local farms and suppliers so that we can offer beautiful produce, along with dairy and high-quality meats. We want to ensure that the families we serve have access to food that nourishes both their bodies, minds and souls."

During the hiatus, New Heights used the time to reimagine how they could better use their space and serve the needs of their community. By focusing on providing fresher and more diverse options, the network aims to empower families with ingredients that make healthy meal prep easier and more accessible. Additionally, the CFN added a Spanish-speaking group to the original two groups, increasing access to more than 40 new families and fostering new relationships and friendships among them.

The expanded offerings have already made a noticeable difference. One community member expressed her excitement about the new selection. "The fruit, vegetables, and meat are a huge help. It makes such a difference in the meals I can prepare for my kids," she said. "Before, it was harder to make sure we were eating healthy with the high costs of food, but now we’re able to eat better."

In addition to the quality of food, the New Heights Community Network has also focused on making the experience more welcoming and efficient for families. The network’s volunteers are dedicated to ensuring that everyone who comes through the doors feels supported and respected, and the refreshed space reflects that mission.

"At New Heights, we believe in treating everyone with dignity," said Kathy Craig. "The changes we’ve made are all about making this an inviting place where families can get the nutritious food they need, while providing options so members can choose the food that best meets their nutritional needs and personal preferences."

The reopening has already sparked excitement in the local community, with past members expressing their gratitude for the return of this valuable resource, and new members flocking to join. With the expanded offerings of fresh food, the Community Food Network is poised to make an even greater impact on the lives of people it serves.

As the program moves forward, New Heights Community Food Network remains committed to fighting food insecurity while promoting healthy living. The network invites volunteers and donors to join in their mission to ensure that no family goes without access to the nutritious food they need.
